Evan Kuhlmann has been composing music for almost as long as he been playing it. His earliest formal training in composition came through the Seattle Symphony Young Composers Workshop, where he was a student of Samuel Jones. During his undergraduate studies at The Juilliard School, Evan received instruction in composition as a non-major from Stanley Wolfe, Christopher Theofanidis, and Philip Lasser. Admitted to Juilliard for graduate study as a double major in Bassoon and Composition, he continued his studies as a student of Robert Beaser, receiving a Graduate Diploma shortly after relocating to Portland to begin his tenure with the Oregon Symphony. In recent years, Evan's preference has been to compose for and with friends. Past performers of his music include the Juilliard Orchestra, Oregon Symphony, and Third Angle New Music.
