Evan Kuhlmann began arranging music primarily out of the desire to perform music not written for the bassoon on the bassoon. He developed his arranging skills not only through studying composition, but also in many years of studying and performing as a jazz and rock keyboardist, and working on big band arrangements with his grandfather. Evan believes that a musician's repertoire should not be limited by the instruments they play. He arranges with the intent that it give musicians an opportunity to enjoy experiences beyond those provided by the repertoire specifically composed for their instruments. Evan's arrangements have been commissioned by ensembles including Genghis Barbie and Pink Martini, as well as the Chicago Sinfonietta, Orchestra of St. Luke's, Oregon Symphony, and Richmond Symphony.
